Rave Culture is one of Britain’s great cultural exports, but after its first wave in the late eighties and early nineties, it was soon forced into the underground by stringent new laws and superclubs. But forward 25 years into in the midst of a nationwide purge on the nation’s nightlife, where nearly half of all British clubs have shut down in the last decade, and a new kind of scene has emerged.

Clive Martin investigates this 21st century version of Rave, where young people break into disused spaces with the help of bolt-cutters and complicated squatting laws, to suck on balloons and go hard into the early morning.

But with the police using increasingly extreme tactics to clamp down on these parties, and more than one fatality causing nationwide media panic, can the scene survive?

  3. Rave's seemed sorta worrying. It's a large amount of people in one Area getting wasted on drugs. Reply to tell me what you think would happen.

  4. I think in the future party drugs should be legalized and sold in clubs special for this kind of music and people. Maybe like a once a month thing. And I think it should definitely be monitored. Its not harming anyone, they could easily make profit off of it. And I think its important for people to have a release.

  5. Good to see the force is back and stronger than ever, we had fun in the late 80's but the high priced clubs took back over, heavy security and dickheads causing trouble. We ended up going to Holland, Germany and France last time driven from our own country just to have fun at a party.
If David Cameron is allowed to stick his knob in a dead pig's mouth on class A's what's wrong with a bunch of kids having fun and no pig's involved.

  6. Meanwhile in Londonistan, followers of a certain pedophile are burning the city down…
Sad to see the end of Britain.

  7. Ooh makes me feel so old… I was doing this 30yrs ago, although I like to think we had better music & drugs! 😉 Everything is cyclical and I’m pleased to see this scene is BACK!!

  8. Squat raves are all about the music and having a good time, yes there are drugs and yes sometimes there are some dodgy people but that's all the police and media focus on.
